Race-Car-Cake, race track cake

I had a lot of fun decorating this cake. It was made up of 3 layers of vanilla butter pound cake with whipped cream filling and slices of fresh strawberries. The frosting was a Swiss Meringue Buttercream. I crushed oreo-like cookies in the food processor and used them for the race track on top.

I formed the race car out of white modeling chocolate and followed the Cake Journal race car cake topper tutorial. Painting that little guy with food coloring was great.

Tedious But So Worth It

We made this for a friend’s son who was turning five. The birthday boy told his mommy he wanted a cake with cars. I altered a design posted on coolest birthday cakes dot com. I selected muted tones for the frosting and I used the #16 star tip for the five in the center and the #2 round tip for the grass.

I piped almost every single blade of grass individually with the #2 tip and this is what took a large chunk of time to complete and tired my arm out a bit.

The most important thing is that it was a huge hit with the birthday boy!

Looks awesome! And, more importantly, sounds delicious! Can we go back in time and have you do both my wedding photography and my cakes? :P
