“Worming” around our house means digging for earthworms. When we go over to visit my parent’s house, Mrs. Sayuri and Pop-Pop (my dad) go “worming” in their back yard. She gets so excited when they find one. And surprisingly she giggles with delight when they squirm and squiggle in her hands. She often describes them as “cute”!
She is very protective of them and makes sure that they are not out of the cool soil too long so that they don’t die.
The big ones are “papa” worms, the medium ones are “mamas” and the little ones are most certainly “babies”. One day when she’s a bit older we’ll talk about the specifics of earthworm gender (possessing both male and female reproductive organs at the same time)…might be a bit confusing for a three and a half year old just yet.
I found this great free earthworm lapbook online. I want to do some of the activities with Mrs. Sayuri soon. I drew her a couple images to color of worms since our printer is not working. She loved them and had a blast drawing a bow and dress on the “mommy” worm and a hat and shirt on the “daddy” worm.
