A little over a month ago Mrs. Sayuri turned five and yet it feels like just yesterday I was posting about her turning four!

For this year’s birthday gift I sewed her a Montessori apron using this great free pattern from Sew Liberated. What I really like about this apron is that she can put it on and take it off all by herself – truly Montessori in design.
It is quite a simple sewing project however it took me longer to complete because I had to do it in secret, i.e. when Mrs. Sayuri was not home (which is hardly ever) or while she was sleeping.

I used a dishtowel for the front and straps and lined it with unbleached muslin on the back. Then I added a fun tulle ruffle detail on the bottom to personalize it for our little ballerina.

Now she’s all set for licking spatulas helping me in the kitchen. She’s an excellent little sous chef and dish washer.

Very sweet, good job mommy. How nice that Mrs. Sayuri is learning to cook and bake and decorate.
Especially love, love, love the first photo! How creative is that to add froufrou to the hem of the apron.
