Hand Puppet Adventures
Who knew that golf club covers AKA golf socks made such great hand puppets? Yep, that’s a red macaw golf sock on Mrs. Sayuri’s arm there with the words Margaritaville embroidered on the side – haha! Her Grandma D found it at our local thrift store and instantly thought it had the potential for being a great puppet.
When I was growing up, my dad had a furry black gorilla head golf sock on one of his clubs in his golf club bag. I loved playing with that thing, although I don’t think I ever thought to slip him on over my hand and make him talk. I wish I had him now – he’d make a great friend for Polly (or Wolly as Mr. Happy Feet calls him), our red macaw golf sock.
We’re currently working on growing our fledgling puppet collection. So far we have a parrot (above), a butterfly and strawberry and flower stick puppets, plus a couple finger puppets. Thinking of looking into possibly crocheting or sewing up some more. A few possiblities are:
Washcloth hand puppets from So You Think You’re Crafty- these are adorable! My fave is the shark.
Bunny Hand Puppets from the Purl Bee – so cute! These are made from felt.
Crocheted hand puppet patterns I might be inclined to make include this frog, this snake and this lion (love the mane!).
🙂 <3 Love it!!
Thanks!
I love this idea. I play with the puppets I have made with not only my daughter but with my nieces too.
I remember when my step son was younger.. we used to throw all kinds of puppet shows for each other.
AND, also you could consider this a great gift, not only the puppets made, but the supplies for another parent and child to make them together. I did that once for my sister and her girls. Their faces lit up so bright when they seen the eyes, puff palls, socks, yarn, and felt with some glue and yarn all in a bag. <3
What a great idea for gifting someone a puppet making kit! My daughter would love that too. We had a blast tonight making the puppets talk. I was laughing so much. It’s fun to see different sides of your children as they use their imagination to be so creative.
I see sheer joy on Mrs. Sayuri’s face, such simple pleasures.
I love the expression on Mrs. Sayuri’s face-it was captured so nicely.
