Bigger Is Not Always Better
Our home birth six weeks ago was our third home waterbirth, but the first using a blow up type birthing pool. For my first two births, I labored in a huge fiberglass birthing tub. That was not an option this time around or I probably would have just stuck with what I was used to. I am glad that I was forced into trying this because I ended up being very happy with it.
The one we used was the Birth Pool in a Box Eco Mini. I found that I actually preferred the pool being smaller in size. I was a bit apprehensive about breaking from my routine, but all that worry was for nothing. The soft cushiony sides were great for leaning my head on while laboring in the pool and while receiving massage from my doula while laboring outside of the tub. It’s size was also perfect for our home that we are in now because we didn’t have the space for a large tub like before.
We set up the birthing tub (inflated it) almost a week before I actually went into labor because I had a feeling like I might have the baby that night (which ended up being a false alarm). We were prepared way ahead of time though, which gave me much peace of mind. The children loved climbing in and out of the birthing pool while it was set up in their papa’s office/birthing room.
You can see that Mr. Happy Feet really enjoyed it being in our home. It was a bittersweet moment when it was deflated and packed up. We were all kind of sorry to see it go when we gave it back to our midwife, Marie.
Such a handsome little boy.
