As I mentioned in a previous post, a lot of my free time lately has been spent on cakes. Decorating them, baking them and tasting them!
Here are three cakes that we made a month ago or more.
The mini cake above was a practice cake.
I really like the 4″ round cake size stacked 2 or 3 layers high – something about such a small cake makes me giddy.
…Does that make me strange? 😛
Mrs. Sayuri kept commenting on how “beautiful” that cake was. She was super excited that she was actually allowed to taste some of it!
Above was my birthday cake. It was a 3 layered poppy seed cake filled with homemade lemon curd filling and decorator’s buttercream frosting from Toba Garrett’s book The Well Decorated Cake.
Sadly, I didn’t get many photos of our first completed birthday cake order (above). By the time I had a free moment to photograph the cake it had already been placed inside it’s box for transport. There was not enough time for me to capture the sides which were my favorite part. At the very least, you can kind of see them.
The site Icing Dreams and henna art in general inspired this design. I chose a hummingbird and flower motif for the top of the cake in hot pink, turquoise and gold (the colors specified by the client). We also included red velvet cake balls and a dozen mini chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter buttercream frosting.
Wow Nicole those are amazing cakes! It seems like everything you set your mind to turns out beautiful.
What beautiful cakes! The hummingbird cake is quite unique-the henna inspiration gave an interesting and delicate look.
