Fireproof The Movie
“Fireproof doesn’t mean that the fires won’t come, but that when they do, it (your marriage) will be strong enough to withstand them.”
I recently watched the movie Fireproof. The main character is played by Kirk Cameron. The acting in the beginning of the film was not very good and almost made me want to stop watching it, but I stuck it out and about ten to fifteen minutes into it, it got better. The message was very uplifting.
The story is about a couple whose marriage is on the brink of divorce. Kirk Cameron’s character, Caleb (a firefighter), is challenged by his dad to stick it out for forty days more while following a forty day Love Dare. The Love Dare consists of 40 days of acts of love towards his spouse, emphasizing that love is not only an emotion but a decision and an act. Caleb, not a Believer, agrees because he doesn’t want a divorce and is desperate.
Even though the plot line is a bit formulaic it was not too much that I lost interest and the message of this movie is one that we could all use reminding of: marriage is a covenant and like a race that we should finish to the end. Let us leave behind the sin that can so easily destroy our marriage and come together in our dedication to remain faithful and true to the promises we said in our vows.
While I’m Waiting
Hebrews 12:1
We too, then, having so great a cloud of witnesses all around us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race set before us.
Til I watched this music video I had never even heard of the movie before. This is what made me want to watch it. This song is one of my current favorites.
Lyrics:
I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait
I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting
I will serve You
While I’m waiting
I will worship
While I’m waiting
I will not faint
I’ll be running the race
Even while I wait
I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it’s not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve you while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting on You, Lord
Thanks for sharing, we can all use encouragement in our relationships, they take work and perseverance. The song is beautiful.
I think that it is nice that you are sharing your thoughts here. Very good comments, especially about marriage being a covenant.
