The theme this week at I ♥ Faces is “Nostalgia”.
When I was a girl, almost every weekend we would visit my grandma, Mom (“Mom” was grandma and my mom was and is “Mommy”. I began calling my grandmother this as a child because I constantly heard my mom call her Mom.)
Mom had an art studio and she would let me paint whenever I wanted to. I loved it! She even made me my own art smock that hung in the studio beside hers.
There was always the afterward clean up too—fond memories of rinsing paint brushes in the sink with her special green bar of soap and watching all the colors mix and swirl together as they washed down the drain.
I remember thinking she was the best grandma ever for letting me use her paints.
The above photo of my daughter, Mrs. Sayuri, closely resembles a photo of me painting in my grandma’s back yard.
I like to think that Mrs. Sayuri and her would have been kindred spirits.
Be sure and check out the other great Nostalgia entries.
I couldn’t find the picture of me painting to include here but for fun’s sake I have included this old photo of Mom and I.
I love this photo. What a fond memory you have of “Mom”, and how wonderful that you get to revisit those great memories with your daughter.
