I made this cowl to give as a gift this past week.
I purchased the pattern as a Ravelry download. I love Ravelry. If you crochet or knit, I would highly recommend becoming a member of that site. This was actually my first crochet pattern purchase. Before this I had always used free patterns, of which there are many amazing ones out there, but I felt this pattern was worth buying. I was not disappointed.
The pattern title is The Perfect Cowl w/detachable flower by the Frayed Knot. I did not make the optional detachable flower. The pattern was very clear and easy to follow. Once I had the repeating pattern down, I could continue it anywhere without needing to reference my printout. I love it when that happens.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the key to a cowl that lays nicely is using the right type of yarn. I purchased Paton’s Silk Bamboo yarn in Orchid and ended up using almost two skeins of it. This yarn has such a smooth feel to it and a very nice drape.
I thought I’d share a list of some other crocheted cowl patterns (all free by the way) that are on my “to make someday” list. Maybe you’ll feel inspired to crochet up a cowl even though it is almost summer.
- Tuni Trio Cowl by Vickie Howell
- Artfully Simple Infinity Scarf
- Amaryllis Cowl (broomstick lace crochet)
- Cardiff Cowl
- Lacy Cluster Cowl
- Icy Day Cowl
- Autumn Mobius Cowl
- Breda’s Cowl
Beautiful, love the color and the stitches.
